The Second East Coast Aeronca Aviators Club Regional Fly-In will be held September 20 at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome (ORA). Rain date is Sunday, September 21. (The first one in June was a victim of poor weather)
We will have a Club table and display area, as well as 3-4 spots on their flight line as a static display. The rest of the aircraft will park across the field on the east side. Bring your own tie-downs!
John Morrow will be OIC (for non-mil types, that's Officer in Charge) along with ORA Safety officer Tom Daley. Please note that ORA tour flights begin at 10:00 am, departing every 7 minutes, so they would like as many aircraft as possible to arrive before 10:00 am. Those who cannot get in before 10 should go to the Kingston-Ulster Airport (20N) and wait for an 11:45 departure planning to arrive at ORA at the noon landing window. It must be stressed that the "Rides Plane" has the right of way over ALL other aircraft. Normal standard FAA right of way rules do not apply at ORA.
The FAA waiver takes effect around 1:00 pm: NO take offs or landings are permitted until the waiver ends at 4:30 pm; this will allow plenty of daylight to get home. After the air show, they will coordinate departures. Safety MUST be stressed at all times including safe hand propping procedures with a qualified person in the aircraft. All pilots are encouraged to have and use hand-held or installed radios, but they are not required. ORA does not use radios and there is no specific frequency for the field. I suggest that 122.75 be used for communications.
Members are welcome to come in Friday night and camp on the field if they would like. Caution in landing needs to be observed as they give Friday night rides. A Group Rate admission of $15 / person has been arranged for Club Members.
Those wishing to stay over, accommodations can be found at two sites:
City of Kingston, which is just west of the Hudson River and the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome Website.
